I Have The Hat

by Baily
(Indiana, USA)

This game has verbal clues and is kind of confusing. You're going to need at least 3 people. You start out by saying, "I Have the hat and I pass it to blank" because you say a name.

Then you say you pass it to someone else but you say their name. Then you ask who has the hat. and you tell them who has the hat.

How do you know who has the hat? Well the first person to talk is who has the hat but you dont tell them that.

It is fun to watch your friends get frustrated because they dont know the secret. :)

Answer to anonymous who hates this game
by: Leena

Hi Anonymous, who hates this game,

Here's the answer:

A,B and C play. A starts off by saying "I have the hat and I pass it to C" then A says "I have the hat and I pass it to B." obviously, C has the hat not B. but A says "Who has the hat?" and whoever answers has it.

Obviously, A is trying to confuse the issue by saying he passed the hat to B, when he didn't get the hat back from C in the first place. So, B shouldn't answer the question.

In case nobody answers A's question, then the game stops of course. But, by this time either C or B feel so much pressure that one of them responds and the conflict has to be resolved.

Real-life application:

This is what happens in real life when someone puts the blame on someone else for their problem. When they don't get a response from the first person, they decide to pass the blame on somebody else. If the second person responds and tries to justify themselves, they have just fallen into the trap of the blamer.

The idea is not to respond. If you don't, sooner than later the blamer will have to take responsibility for their actions and cut the cycle of blame trading.

IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!! If B replies saying that he has it he would be wrong because C got it first. But some people are saying that whoever speaks has it. so... which one is it?

Response to Hat game comment below by Sereen
by: Leena

Hi Sereen!

I can understand your dilemma. Baily begins the game description with the submission 'is kind of confusing'. I am going to try and explain the game. Let's see if that helps you.

Assume A, B and C are playing this game. A starts out by saying 'I have the hat and I pass it on to C'. Then A says again, 'I pass it on to B'.

Now A asks 'who has the hat?' If B answers, that means he has the hat. However, if B understands that he did not have the hat because the hat was originally passed on to C and until C passes it, A cannot pass it on to anybody, then he will be quiet and let C answer. If C answers then of course he has the hat.

After this the game begins again, with C this time. It is somewhat like a game we used to play as children called 'find the handkerchief'

In this game all the children sit in a circle. One of them is given a handkerchief. This child then goes around outside the circle and silently drops the handkerchief behind another child.

The game is in the children being alert and figuring out which one of them now had the handkerchief. Whoever has it should figure it out quickly and pick up the handkerchief, chase the first child and touch him before he gets an opportunity to sit back in his place.

If the first child is touched then he is out of the game.

to explain the game
by: Smartestpersonever

to explain this game it goes like this.: there are three people jenny, cody, steve. Cody starts off by saying I have the hat I give it to jenny jenny gives it to steve and steve gives it back to jenny who then throws the hat away. who has the hat.? if steve said that no one has the hat because jenny threw it away he would be wrong. steve would have the hat because he talked first. whoever talks first after the question "who has the hat" has the hat.
